Automotive Engineer Training Program

Automotive Engineer Training Program is a comprehensive programme made up of 10 complementary trainings, designed for participants who will take on — or are moving into — a quality, project or production engineering role in the automotive supply chain.

An engineer new to the sector usually picks up knowledge piecemeal: FMEA in one training, the control plan somewhere else, MSA through experience. Rather than gathering the same knowledge in a scattered way, this programme presents it in a connected, sequential structure.

Why is the programme built in this order?

The automotive quality system is not a single document or technique but an interconnected chain. IATF 16949 establishes the framework; APQP plans the product development process; FMEA identifies potential failure modes and their risks; the control plan defines how that risk will be controlled on the shop floor; MSA and SPC verify the reliability of measurement and process; PPAP documents the part’s approval; VDA 6.3 audits whether this chain genuinely works on the shop floor; and PSCR adds product safety responsibility on top of all of it.

The programme follows this logical order: first the system, then planning, then the risk and control tools — first defining the risk (FMEA), then bringing that risk under control (the control plan) — then verification, then audit.

Who is it for?

  • Quality, project and production engineers new to the automotive supply chain
  • Quality, process and production technicians and specialists whose responsibilities are expanding
  • Engineers moving into automotive from another sector
  • Supplier quality development (SQA/SQD) teams
  • Teams involved in product and process development (APQP)
  • Organizations that want to build their engineering team in a structured way

There are no prerequisites; the programme is designed for participants starting from scratch.

Programme Content

The programme consists of the following 10 trainings. Each module can also be taken separately; when taken as a programme, the content flow is sequenced so each module builds on the last.

1. IATF 16949 Training — Automotive Quality Management System

The framework of the automotive quality management system and how it differs from ISO 9001.

2. APQP Training — Advanced Product Quality Planning

The stages of the product development process and the gate criteria between phases.

3. AIAG-VDA FMEA Training

Systematically anticipating design and process failure modes.

4. Control Plan Training

The single reference document defining how the risks identified in the FMEA are controlled on the shop floor.

5. MSA Training — Measurement Systems Analysis

Verifying the reliability of the measurement system.

6. SPC Training — Statistical Process Control

Monitoring and interpreting process behaviour with data.

7. PPAP Training — Production Part Approval Process

Documenting the part’s approval process for series production.

8. Automotive Core Tools Training

An integrated view of how APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC and PPAP connect to one another.

9. VDA 6.3 Training — Process Audit

Auditing whether this chain is genuinely applied on the shop floor.

10. PSCR Training — Product Safety and Conformity

Managing characteristics that are critical for safety and regulatory conformity.

Programme Outcomes

  • Grasping the automotive quality management system as a connected whole
  • Managing the product development process end to end, from APQP to PPAP
  • Identifying risk with FMEA and bringing it under control with the control plan
  • Using MSA and SPC to verify measurement and process reliability
  • Participating in a VDA 6.3 process audit or preparing for one
  • Reflecting product safety and conformity requirements into processes

Programme Structure and Duration

Number of modules: 10 trainings.

Total duration: Most modules run 1–2 days; the programme spans roughly 12–16 training days in total. The exact schedule depends on the participation format and module selection.

Participation type: Open enrolment (modules on separate dates) or in-house (a condensed calendar).

Training method: In person, live online, on-demand recording — selectable per module.

Dates: Set according to demand. When you submit the request form, we plan the programme calendar and the module-based alternatives together with you.

Certificate of Attendance

Participants who complete each module receive a certificate of attendance for that module. Participants who complete the full programme also receive a programme-level certificate of attendance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this programme only for quality engineers? No. The programme is designed for anyone taking on a quality, project or production engineering role in the automotive supply chain. The content covers the common technical foundation needed regardless of which of these roles you’re in.

Can I take the modules separately? Yes. Each training is also open for participation on its own. Taking the programme as a whole lets the content build on itself in sequence and offers an advantage on total cost.

Do I have to complete the whole programme, or can I choose which modules I take? Module selection is possible. However, the programme is designed to deliver the greatest benefit when the modules are taken in this order.

I’m an experienced engineer — can I skip the fundamental modules? Yes. In the in-house version, module selection and intensity are planned together based on the participant profile.

Is there a certification exam at the end of the programme? No. A certificate of attendance is issued at the end of each module; the programme is not a professional certification but a structured competence-building programme.

In an in-house programme, do we work through the modules using our own cases? Yes. In in-house programmes, the practical exercises are run on your own processes and data as much as possible.
